WILDLIFE MATTERS; ACT NOW!

Each year, over 10 million animals are killed on Australian roads. Against the backdrop of a wider extinction crisis, this road toll is both devastating and unsustainable. This crisis demands immediate action.

While Transport for NSW has environmental obligations under the EP&A Act and the EPBC Act 1999, there is no legislation to ensure consistent compliance, and no system in place to collect data on wildlife strikes.

We are calling on the NSW Labor Government to:

  1. Implement a policy mandate requiring Transport for NSW to consider the impact on wildlife when designing new roads
  2. Include wildlife strikes in speed zone reviews
  3. Establish a data collection protocol for recording accurate data from the community on wildlife deaths and injuries on our state roads.

We need a comprehensive approach to wildlife safety that encompasses real time data about wildlife strikes.

It is critical that we prioritise effective road design, incorporating wildlife-friendly strategies from the very beginning of the planning process.

Tell the NSW Labor Government that wildlife matters! Sign the petition.
